MESSAGE OF HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BHARRAT JAGDEO ON THE OCCASION OF PHAGWAH 2004.
I extend sincere greetings to all Guyanese and the Hindu community,
in particular, on the occasion of Phagwah.
Phagwah brings people from all walks of life together and creates a beautiful atmosphere for friendly exchanges. Festivals are refreshing. Phagwah brings out not only expressions of love and fraternity but oneness which is positive in the life and development of a nation.
In the construction of a better world, unity and understanding constitute the primary ingredients to effect changes and pursue a programme from which all can benefit and develop. My hope and wish is that the high spirit of harmony, which is so conspicuous during this celebration should live on and become a dominant feature in the life of our nation.
We should draw strength and fortitude from the noble life of Prince Prahalad and inculcate the steadfastness which he demonstrated in the most challenging moments of his life. Prince Prahalad’s triumph gives hope to all those committed to the pursuance of a noble path.
Once again, a Happy Phagwah to all Guyanese.
