EASTER MESSAGE OF HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT BHARRAT JAGDEO
This week-end-beginning Friday and ending on Sunday-is the most significant time in the calendar of most Christians in Guyana and, indeed in the world.
It commemorates the Crucifixion and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the twin-event that brought into being the Church, the “new” people of God.
The Crucifixion was the climax of Jesus’ life of total sacrifice and service on behalf of human-kind, particularly the poor, marginalized and oppressed. He died at the hands of an oppressive regime at the instigation of a corrupt priesthood.
The resurrection indicated divine endorsement of the life of self-less service out of love for humanity. It is symbolic of the victory of Life over death, and Truth over untruth.
As we observe this week-end, let us remind ourselves of these things and recommit ourselves to the selfless service of our fellows, and the affirmation of the fullness of life for all Guyanese against all those forces that are death-dealing.
