DIWALI MESSAGE OF HIS EXCELLENCY BHARRAT JAGDEO, PRESIDENT OF GUYANA 2004
On behalf of the Government of Guyana, I extend Diwali greetings to all Guyanese, especially our Hindu brothers and sisters.
Diwali represents the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. The story of Diwali is comforting. It reassures us that our adversities and challenges, can be overcome.
Diwali is of great significance to Hindus, however it has a universal message of hope. Hope for a brighter tomorrow; hope for a more prosperous future. This Festival as symbolized by Mother Laxmi also represents wealth, peace and prosperity, goals which all Guyanese share for this beautiful country.
Diwali is indeed a national festival as Guyanese of all walks of life will participate in viewing the magnificent motorcades and illuminated buildings. May this nurture that light within ourselves so that we can share more knowledge and show greater affection and compassion for each other.
On this Diwali, we must continue to reach out to our fellow citizens and dedicate our efforts towards the achievement of progress, unity and prosperity.
